The Tuileries began in 1564, when Catherine de’ Medici commissioned a palace and garden. Its name recalls the tile workshops once found here.
In 1664, André Le Nôtre redesigned the grounds. His strong perspectives and carefully ordered spaces continue to shape the garden.
Today, a visit can be as simple as choosing a chair, watching the water, and enjoying a pause in the city.
